The HabCam Group of commercial fishermen, independent researchers, fisheries biologists and engineers led the Seafloor Explorer project, with the goal of mapping the distributions of sea scallops and other commercially important species as well as defining the substrate and habitat in which they live. Zooniverse volunteers identified species and ground cover in images of the seafloor, and helped create a library of seafloor life in the habitats along the northeast continental shelf. Over 2.4M images were classified, with over 1.9M scallops marked, 170K fish marked, 3.7M seastars marked, and 160K crustaceans marked.
Thank you all for your contributions to this project!
